Is Short Term Memory Loss Related To Alzheimer's?

A person 89 yrs is having short term memory loss, and also this bizarre symptom in which they think many hours or even days have passed and it may have actually only been 20 minutes or an hour. Is this unusual? Does it indicate probable Alzheimer's? Could it be due to vascular blockage?

Dear
Unfortunately recent memory loss usually are related to dementia
As symptoms are acute, an vascular disorder need to be excluded (brain CT scan will give you the insurtance)
