Is Shingles Contagious?

i am a hairdresser and a customer had a rash at her bra line under her arm. i sent her to the doctor who then said she had shingles. she had told me she had the rash for a week.she called after the doctor visit and said he put her on medicine and also stress medicine, and she claims shes not contagious if shes covered. i am worried because she was in the blistered state not scabbed over. i had shingles six years ago. is she contagious should i let her get her hair done next week?

Dear
Thanks for contacting with your health concer and following is symptomwise approach:
1. Shingles can only spread to someone who has never had chickenpox, so if you had shingles in the past but not chickenpox (till date) chances are you will get chickenpox and not shingles.
2. If you have chickenpox in past then the virus is already inside you and even if she has active shingle the virus in your body won't neceasarily reactivate only if person has weak immune system or immunocompromised state then chances of herpes zoster are more.
3. If the vesicles have dried up?and scab formation has started to occur you can safely cut her hairs during next visit.
