Is Sharp Ripping Pain In The Urethra A Matter Of Concern?

I had a VP shunt placed 2 weeks ago. I have had some horrible pain in my lower abdomen. The did a CT and the surgeon called me to come back in the CT revealed I have gas in my urinary tract. If I cough, I get serious sharp ripping pain from my uretha. Is this something I need to be concerned with? The pain hurts really all into my perineal area.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per my clinical experience, the current presentation suggests there is possibility of severe urethral inflammation from various issues which may be gas forming organism or others.

In our clinic, I recommend patient to get admitted in hospital and intensive management is mandatory in form of hydration, IV antibiotics, check up over proper urine output.

Wish this information will help you. Do feel free to ask further doubts.
