Is Severe Pain From Back To The Front A Symptom Of Shingles?

Is it possible to have shingles without the rash. I have had intense burning pain, especially when I lay down, on my right side, radiating from back to front. I ve had this pain for about 2 weeks. The area is where I see the rash often develops. The pain is bad enough that I cannot sleep.

Dear
Thanks for contacting with your health concern and after reviewing your history I'm of the following opinion:

. The description which you have mentioned (from back to front) ia classical radiation for Herpes (shingles) and if burning is there but no rash one can think of developing herpes.

. It is wise to have a check up with a Skin Specialist for necessary examination, investigation (culture,PCR,Biopsy sample) for better line of management.

. Till then one can take:

. Herpex ointment locally (4 hourly)
. Capsule B complex: twice daily
. Injection Neurobion: 2cc IM daily (5 Inj.)
. Capsule Tramadol or sublingual Norphin for severe pain
. Apply Calamine lotion (soothing lotion)
. Do not wear clothes over the lesion, and avoid friction

PS. any rash which stops in the midline should be suspected to be Herpes
