Is Severe Chest Pain A Symptom Of Costochondritis?
I woke up today with severe chest pain on my sternum bone. The same spot as it pops once and a while if you stretch back. It's painfully to the touch and feels as if the bone is raised. I went to the ER and got x rays and blood work and they ruled out heart attack. This pain is severe 10/10. They said it's prob a pulled muscle but I'm not convinced .. I wonder if it's Costochondritis. If so what options do I have and is that something h that causes pain like being stabbed
Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Severe chest pain could be due to costochondritis as you have painful to touch and bone is raised (suggest inflammation). I would suggest to orthopedic surgeon and undergo clinical examination for proper treatment.
Following treatment will help you:
Injection tramadol for immediate relief, Tablet Etoricoxib + Thiocolchicoside, Tablet Ranitidine, application of Diclofenac (Volini) gel, warm pad application, complete bed rest, wear elastic crepe bandage for supporting respiration.
Take healthy diet, and drink plenty of water. Avoid exertion and activity that cause pain.
Hope this may help you. Contact further if follow up needed.
Best regards, Dr. Sagar
