Is Sepsis A Life Threatening Medical Condition?

A dear friend who is a paraplegic and has been in Spinal Injury Treatment Center at the VA hospital in Palo Alto, Ca now has infection of the blood. He has been on various antibiotics for two different infections and pneumonia. He has been moved to ICU today. Is infection of the bood also known as sepsis and is this condition life-threatening?

Yes and in an hospitalised patient it may become life threatening. But with appropriate antibiotics and critical care at right time can help. Patient also needs close monitoring for looking into functions of vital organs, that is the reason for shifting to ICU.
Hope the above information solves your query. Thanks.
