Is Rinsing With Salt Water Advisable After Wisdom Tooth Extraction?

Hello I got my wisdom teeth pulled on Tuesday so today is the 4th day post op I ve been rinsing with warm salt water after every meal and morning and night after brushing teeth but on one socket it seems that there is slight to none bleeding but it s constant and I was wondering if this could cause the blood clot to dislodge?

Hello,

I can understand your concern. You should not expect any bleeding 4th day postoperatively. So if you are certain that you are bleeding from the extraction socket, you should contact your dentist immediately for the secondary bleeding complication.

If you are certain that there is no bleeding, then you can continue to do warm salt water gargles for faster healing and antibacterial activity. The clot will not get dislodged. It is just first 24 hours after extraction that are critical and you have to take care not to dislodge the clot. The extraction site might take 3 weeks to 1 month to heal completely so you may see a raw wound at the extraction site which is not a cause of concern unless it is causing any other symptoms.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish you speedy recovery.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
