Hello Sir, Me and my wife have had unprotected sex on 15th of this month. Followed by which she consumed iPill. Her periods generally start on 19th. However, this time she did not have periods so far. Pregnancy kit too gave a negative result on 21st. What could be the possible reason for delay in period?. Also her age is 20. Is it recommended to consume Ipill? Please guide us
Hi I can understand your concern. Yes, pregnancy can be possible despite of using I pill. Emergency contraceptive pills like I-Pill is effective up to 95% in preventing pregnancy following an unprotected sex. To be effective it must be taken as soon as possible within 72 hours of unprotected sex. Delayed period could be due side effect of the I-Pill (as it is known to cause hormonal imbalance for a few weeks) or it could also be due to an early pregnancy, stress, emotional upset or any medical illness. To be on safer side, get her early morning urine sample tested for pregnancy & if it is negative consult a gynecologist for induction of bleeding. Hope this answers your query.
