Is Pregnancy Possible Despite Taking I-pill Post Unprotected Sex?
Hey, me and my boyfriend had unprotected sex on 5th of January and within 1 hour of sex i had taken i pill, my last periods date was 27 th December, and today is 7th February and my periods haven t occurred yet, though i had spotting on 21st of January. I had taken a pregnany test also few days ago and it was negative but my periods haven t occurred yet. Are there any chances of getting pregnant.
Hi & Welcome to HCM. I can understand your concern. Yes, pregnancy is possible despite taking the I-pill following an unprotected sex. Post coital contraceptive pills like 'I-pill' is 95% effective in preventing unwanted pregnancy. Since you had 'spotting' on January 21st after having unprotected sex on January 5th, the delayed menses could be due to the side effect of I-pill (which contains high dose Progesterone). However, the chances of pregnancy can not ruled out totally hence you are advised to repeat the pregnancy test on an early morning urine sample or blood pregnancy (hCG) test to rule out pregnancy. Hope this will help you.
