Is Persistent Fever At The Age Of 82 A Cause For Concern?
Hi, my husband 82 years began a fever of 101 last night. Today it is 102+. He is sleeping comfortably and has no other symptoms. He had a basal cell removed on his upper lip last week and stitches removed yesterday. Otherwise good health, plays tennis usually, but diagnosed w heart murmur (mild) two weeks ago. I will take him to urgent clinic for sure tomorrow if fever still there. He doesn t want to do it tonight
You can give him paracetamol syrup to control core body temperature. If fever persists for more than one week, you can seek help from a physician. Antibiotics may be started empirically.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
