Is Painful Swelling On The Face A Symptom Of Mumps?

I m a 52 year old female and I think that I have the mumps on right side. My question is can or does your gums swell with the mumps? Hurts bad. Swelling on right side of my face, hurts to talk and swallow. Very achy, I m cold and I do believe that I m fevered, low grade temperature. I ve had this since yesterday morning April 9th. Thank you

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Yes, you can see gum inflammation when you have mumps and it is secondary to infection only.
Although gum swelling is not always present..
Mumps is most commonly seen bilaterally that is it involves both sides glands and is not just one side..
So my suggestion to you is to once consult with an Oral or General Physician and get evaluated as there is definitely infection in your gland but if it is mumps or bacterial infection in your gland, it has to be first ruled out for confirming the diagnosis..
A blood test and saliva culture can further be diagnostic.
As of now take a combination of Ibuprofen and Acetamiophen to reduce pain, swelling and fever and do cool compresses over the swelling..
Take soft food and keep yourself well hydrated,
Take sufficient rest.

Wish you a quick recovery..

Regards.
