Is Normal Pregnancy Possible After A Miscarriage?

Hi doc , my lmp was oct 12,2016.. i test faint positive on hpt on 14.10.16.beta hcg was 54. My gyno suggested follow up n feared ectopic/non viable pregnancy.. i was spotting orangish then brown then dull red throughout(although only a tiny amount). Hcg readings were 18.11- 110; 22.11- 250; 26.11-590.. i was given progesterone and folic acid. My doc did a tvg u/s at which showed nothing..no sac n nothing l else..uterus lining was 9.2mm ... the next test on 28.11 was 575( dip from last).. dic suggested to stop progesterone n opined iam misscarrying... my next hcg test is on 2.12.. is there any hope for a viable pregnancy...

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Based on your description, it appears that your present pregnancy may not be viable and would land up in miscarriage due to the following reasons:

1. beta hCG levels seem to be very low and the values should double every 48 to 72 hours.

2. There is no visualization of sac in the uterus by ultrasound scan, as by this time gestational sac should have been seen along with fetal pole.

3. There is history of spotting and putting on progesterone medication along with folic acid does not have seemed to help in supporting pregnancy.

However, normal pregnancy is certainly possible even if you have miscarriage this time and hence remain hopeful. Kindly follow the advise as given by your treating doctor.

Hope the information provided would be helpful. Let me know if I can assist you further.
