Is Non Urination Since Hemorrhoid Surgery A Medical Emergency?

My husband had hemorrhoid surgery this afternoon. They told us if he didn t urinate on his own within 6 hours, he should go to the emergency room. He has not produced any urine,mbut he says he doesn t feel like he needs to and wants to wait until tomorrow morning and see what happens then. Will this endanger his health if we wait?

Your husband has undergone surgery of Hemorrhoidectomy in the afternoon .

Anal and Urethral sphincters have same nerve supply hence some patients are unable to pass urine due to reflex spasm of the urethral sphincter and need catheterization to empty bladder .

Your husband has not passed urine till now .You can ask him to drink more water and if he fails to pass urine of his own you may need to go ER for catheterization .I would suggest you not to wait till tomorrow morning and to go to ER before 10 p.m so that you may not have to rush to ER in the middle of night .
