Is Missing A Single Dose Of Dexamethasone A Cause For Concern?

My son is 14 yrs old and he just took 3 dexamethasone 1.5 tablets. He should have taken them last night but my husband didn t give them to him as told by me. He claim he could not find them no the less he also took one hydrocodone tablet. These two prescribes were prescribe by the dentist because of pain and from dental work done. Is it cause for alarm because it was not taken last night versus today and can he go to school with this in his system this morning any assistance you can provide is appreciated.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Dexamethasone is a steroid which is taken to reduce swelling/inflammation caused by asthma and croup in the respiratory tract. My understanding is that this medication does not treat swelling/inflammation due to dental procedures.

You do not need to worry about the missed dose of Dexamethasone. Your son can safely attend school in the morning.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
