Hi My mother has fibroadenoma from long time...with amenorrhea for last 4 cycles...from last month she was on methotrexate, methyl prednisolone 4mg as a treatment for inflammatory arthritis... now she is having menorrhagia from last 10 days. My question is 1.menorrhagia is due to fibroadenoma or prednisolone induced?? 2.does she require treatment with tranexamic acid or progesterone??

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the menorrhagia is related to side effect of prednisolone and not in concern with fibroadenoma. My guidelines would be:
- Stop prednisolone immediately
- Discuss the need of tranexamic acid with ethamsylate to control the excess bleeding and prevent anemia development

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
