Is Management Of LDL Levels Through Diet Advisable?
I am concerned about my cholesterol levels because of family history. My Ldl is 3.09. It was 2.36 a year ago but I have not been as careful with my diet the past year. My doctor prescribed Crestor . I am worried about the side effects. I am thinking of watching my diet for a month and take another blood test before taking meds. Is that wise to do? My Hdl is1 .86 and triglyceride is 1.02. My cholesterol reading is 5.42. I am 65 and female. thank you.
Side effects of any medication are a concern though it is important to remeber that effects occur in minority not majority of persons. In addition , as it relates to the statins, the most common effects worried about are liver damage or muscle effects.
If there is an increase in liver enzymes with blood tests, they return to normal when the medication is discontinued. Muscle pain , if occurs, would also resolve
The effects, if they do occur are not long term permanent problems.
If you are still concerned then you can try diet changes for a short period if time. If the diet change alone is not enough, it should still be done along with the medication.
I hope this helps
