Dear Madam, Hi & Welcome.
I appreciate your concern for your beloved son who seems to be having familial hypercholesterolemia which is a hereditary condition which runs in family.

Statins like Lovastatin is effective in lowering the high cholesterol level thus reducing the risk of atherosclerosis which is a major risk factor for heart disease and stroke.

It should not be used in young children of less than 8 years of age, however
it is quite safe for your son who is 24 years old.

Remember Lovastatin may cause certain side effects such as myopathy (muscle pain, tenderness or weakness), liver dysfunction or stomach upset.

Hope these answer your query.

Wishing your son a very good health.
