Is Long Term Intake Of Nortriptyline Advisable For Vestibular Migraine?

I am a 44 yr old male.I have been diagnosed with vestibular migraines. They started me on Nortriptyline about a year and a half ago. I take 30mg every night. Is there a long term side effect of this drug? Also, is this the only treatment and is there any chance to correct this issue and someday get off the drug?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

There are certain long term side effects of Nortriptyline as:
- Anxiety episodes
- Decrease urination
- Fainting
- Muscle stiffness
- Swelling face
- Breathing problems
- Others

In my clinic, I do recommend a tapering dose of the Nortryptiline to adjust the needed amount for vestibular migraine and avoidance of other ill effects.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
