Is Long-term Intake Of Klonopin And Depakote Safe For Insomnia And Migraine?
current stays of long term use of Klonopin. A neurologist suggest I stay on 1 mg nightly for sleep. on for 7 years now. I had insomnia and migraines. He gave me Deakote ER 250 mg night with the Klonopin. Now he retired and I m learning that a lot of news says long term is dangerous. I m 60 years old. This drug combination took away a nightmare live of working with out sleep and suffering migraines that were debilitating . I have an Internist as primary. Three years out of med. school. Feeling confused on continuing the drugs, but don t want migraines and no sleep. Is it true that Klonopin damages the neurons and alters the synapses? Is it had to back off of it?
There may be a better combination of drugs to be used for the problems you mention of insomnia/nightmares or migraineheadaches.
I believe you should consult with a sleep specialist to formally characterize and quantify your insomnia by way of a sleep study.
Once it is established which type of insomnia you have (trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, or mixed) as well as your nightmare activity then, many things may fall into place as far as migraine headaches are concerned which you may be having as a direct consequence of the insomnia.
Chronic use of Depakote without the periodic vigilance of bone marrow and blood activity is known to carry risks and the use of Prazosin nowadays is considered a more reasonable first choice drug for nightmare activity than Klonopin.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
