Is Lightheadedness Normal With Bronchospasms?

My teen daughter (14 yrs) has been experiencing lightheadedness/headaches for a few months now. The lightheadedness has been much worse this past week, especially when she gets up and stays up too long. I told her to concentrate on always getting up slowly and staying hydrated. She is also on her menses right now. She was diagnosed with bronchospasms last year, and has to take her inhaler before she does any exercise or sports. The other night she said it was hard to breathe. I think I need to take her to see a doctor soon. Thank you for all your help with this very disconcerting matter. I want her to be healthy, happy and well.

Hello,

Thank you for asking at HCM.

I went through your daughter's history and would like to make suggestions for her as follows:

1. First of all, I would like to know more about your daughter like - Does she have nose allergies - running nose, nose obstruction, sneezing, etc? What are the medications she is on, as some medicines can have side-effects like light-headedness.

2. Were I treating her, I would suggest her regular montelukast and review her medicines to know whether they are causing side effects.

3. If she has nose obstruction, I would suggest her daily steam inhalation.

4. I would also measure her blood pressure in lying down and upright position, to know whether she has postural variations in blood pressure causing lightheadedness.

5. Taking plenty of fluids during day to maintain hydration is also very important.

Hope above suggestions will be helpful to her.

Should you have any further query, please feel free to ask at HCM.

Wish your daughter the best of the health ahead.

Thank you & Regards.
