Is Ligament Damage In The Foot Possible While Having A Sprained Ankle?

hi my name Is trish and I had a few questions. I had sprained my ankle about 6-8 months ago and followed my regular docs orders and was on crutches for two weeks for it. I had sprained the in-step of my left ankle. today I went back to the hospital and they told me that I have a heel spur via xray and told me to go to a foot doc. is it possible that when I sprained my ankle that I could have hurt a muscle or ligiment inside my ankle to my foot to cause this heel spur? I have been dealing with the same pain since I have sprained my ankle and it never got any better it seems to be getting worse and worse. I have also have had a limp that has not gone away since then either in the same foot.
