Hello,

I can understand your concern. Having dry throat is not an indication or confirmation of HIV infection.

If you have had possible exposure to the HIV virus you should go for ELISA test which detects the presence of HIV antibodies in blood. This test can be performed as early as 10 days after possible exposure and as late as 86 days after possible exposure.

If these tests come negative, then it is 97% confirmed that you do not have HIV infection, which indicates high sensitivity of the ELISA test.

You should continue the medications prescribed by the ENT specialist for the throat infection and keep the follow up appointment.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish you feel better soon.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
