Is Itchiness Normal In The Ankle Where A Metal Rod Was Inserted?

Hi! I ve had a metal rod in my ankle since I managed to fracture my ankle roller skating and they were scared of it growing back incorrectly. I ve had a scar and it s been about 4 years and I have not got it removed because I see no reason to but it s been really itchy in the area that it s in, is that normal?

any Implant in ankle has to be removed withiwithin 2 years of surgery maximum. But you have kept it for long time. may be leading to metal reaction. or may be infection. infection is unlikely as you don't have fever I assume. If you keep it like that in long run it may lead to many complications and it may be difficult to remove or you may have refracture while removing it if you delay too much. ALL IN ALL the rid in your ankle has to be removed. go to an experienced orthopaedician and get it removed and get rid of it.
