Is It Typical For Patients With Vitiligo To Have High Eosinophil Count?

Hello. I have had my 18 y.o. son get blood work twice yearly to have a baseline secondary to family cholesterol issues. His bloodwork came back with an absolute eosinophil of 649 July 2018. His last bloodwork was Oct 2017 and the eosinophil was 198. He does have vitiligo and he does have allergies. I do not know if there is any parasites in his stool, as I have a Dr appt tomorrow. I will be sure to ask for a stool exam, peripheral blood film and an x-ray of his paranasal sinus. Is it typical for patients with vitiligo to have high eosinophil counts? Is there any other diagnostic tests I should request? Thank you! J. Strickle

Hi,

Vitiligo not associated with high AEC. It is due to some form of upper respiratory tract allergic inflammation or Parasitic infestation.

I suggest you investigate with stool routine micro examination with an occult blood test and PNS X-ray for further work up.

You can revert back with reports.]

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Parth Goswami, General & Family Physician
