Is It Suggestible To Use Omeprazole More Than 14 Days?

My doctor suggested I take 1 20mg capsule of omeprazole per day indefinetly. Instructions enclosed with my prescription, advise, no more than 14 days, unless suggested by my doctor. Is there any reason why I should not follow his instructions to use this product indefinitely . john prinvale

It would have helped a little if you had mentioned the condition for which you were prescribed omeprazole. I presume, you must be having GERD, a condition that reqiures long-term treatment with proton-pump inhibitors such as omeprazole.

In such a case, the treatment of the condition is more important. Since your doctor has suggested that you take omeprazole indefinitely, you must do so. The instructions enclosed with the prescriptions also say that '... unless suggested by the doctor.'

My personal advice: take omeprazole till your follow-up visit with your doctor. At your follow-up visit discuss the 'omeprazole' issue with your doctor.
