Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 88 yr old dad is taking Depakote 125mg and paxil 20 mg at bedtime. He has vascular dementia. He has developed a very severe tremor in his hands. Last night it was extreme within 20 minutes after taking nighttime meds. Called Dr......answering service at midnight. No help. Horrible night...shaking badly, scratching face over and over, rubbing eyes severely. Today (Saturday) dr called and said to cut paxil to 10 mg. It is time for meds but his tremor is so bad I am afraid to give them. Is there harm in stopping the paxil completely. What would that do? I believe the paxil is what is causing this reaction.
It is a bit random to say something one has been doing for months is associated with a new symptom. Paxil is generally lowered by halving the dose for a month and then repeating this until the dose is under 5 mg per day.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Matt Wachsman
