Hello, Thanks for using Healthcaremagic. i had gone through all the data you have posted.
This day our era of medicine is "Evidence based medicine" there is little rolefor empirical therapy.
here we try to prove what we are treating, only if every test comes out negative then we go for emperical treatment when clinical suspicion is very high.
if suspicion of
Tuberculosis is high
sputum for AFB, Chest x ray,ESR,
Mantoux test are baseline
if negative but suspicion is high
bronchoscopy or lymphnode biopsy if any palpable lymphnode is seen or
CT chest if some doubt exists.
DOTS is an effective medicine, contains combination of antibiotics against Tuberculosis bacteria.
main side effectof ATT( anti tuberculosis therapy) is hepatitis, neuropathy, nausea, vomiting and
ethambutol is relatively contraindicated in pregnancy.
so if she dosent have the disease we are placing her at risk of these side effects due to these drugs.rarely ATT induced hepatitis may lead to fatal
liver failure..so better to confirm the diagnosis
Hope this helps..
