Is It Safe To Take Zyprexa Along With Risperidone For Schizophrenia?

My name is hannah. I am 21 and diagnosed with schizophrenia. Was on zyprexa 10 mg from February May the due to weight gain tapered off and put on risperdone which did not work and now I'm 9 days into zyprexa 10mg with along with other meds I've been taking and I'm still having psychotic episode that has lasted for almost a month. Will the zyprexa work again? Thank you in advance for any answers- Hannah's mom.

Hello thanks for asking from HCM

I can understand your concern. Zyprexa is Olanzapine and is an anti psychotic drug. Risperidone is also an antipsychotic drug. Zyprexa is a good anti psychotic drug and the drug has quick actions. The drug will control your symptoms in coming days, no need to worry. For persistent psychotic symptoms of acute psychosis sometimes injectables like Haloperidol and Phenargan combination can be used. These drugs will help in good sleep and will reduce the psychotic symptoms. Please visit a doctor for proper evaluation and help.

Thanks, Hope this helps. Take care
