Is It Safe To Take Vivitrol For Opiate And Cocaine Addiction?

My son will be starting on vivitrol later this week for opiate addiction (heroin and oxy).My concerns are that he may try other drugs (i.e. cocaine). My other concern is that he may try to take larger amounts of opiates. Will he still get high if he uses cocaine? Are there many cases of opiate overdoses while on Vivitrol?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, Vivitrol contains Naltrexone which acts as opioid antagonist. It is used in cases of alcohol dependance programme and cases who had consumed opioids and stopped taking it to prevent relapse.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
