Is It Safe To Take Olanzapine Together With Tramadol Or Tapentadol?

Hi Doctor, My mother in on olanzapine for few years. Now she need to take some effective pain killer(osteoarthritis and back pain). She is also having gastritis. So diclofenac and acceclofenac is not a good option. Orthopedician is prescribing tramadol or tapentadol. Can you please tell me that olanzapine is safe with tramadol/tapentadol or not?

Hi,

You are very right, NSAIDs should not be used if she has gastritis. There is no gross interaction between olanzapine and tramadol and you can use them both. However, both of these drugs can cause sedation (sleepiness) so care should be taken otherwise they can be used together.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
