Is It Safe To Take Etoposide Along With Cisplatin Before Having Chemotherapy?

My husband is scheduled to begin chemotherapy with Etoposide and cisplatin. I would like to give him milk thistle to protect him from cisplatin induced nephropathy. I know there is not an interaction with cisplatin but am unsure about Etoposide. Is there any problem with a potential interaction with Etoposide?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It is not safe to take Etoposide along with Cisplatin as it may cause severe nausea and vomiting. While there is no documented any harmful interactions between Etoposide and milk thistle hence they may be taken together.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
