Is It Safe To Take Aleve With Sulfasalazine?

I started sulfasalazine therapy about 2 month ago. I m taking 2 500mg twice a day. It is working well on my even I still feel some mild pain. The thing is I just go a neck spasm and I need some strong antinflamatory. Long ago I used celebrex because it was the only thing that worked form me. Right now I don t have celebrex, but I do have some Aleve. Is it safe to take Aleve with the sulfasalazine? I also take glimepiride, metformin, omeprazole and losartan.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Aleve contains Naproxen which is also an anti-inflammatory drug like Celebrex. Both Sulfasalazine and pain killers when taken together can affect renal function in the long run. Hence I would suggest you to restrict the drug use for shorter duration and check your renal function regularly.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
