Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is it OK to put ketsup on a burn? my husband was holding a paper towel near the gas Barbeque and it caught fire and burned a layer of skin on two fingers-looks like it peeled it right off. We ran cold water over it first and then ketsup. How long to leave the ketsup on?
Your husband burnt a layer of skin on two fingers. The burn peeled it. You are suggested to wash the affected area with water. Apply ointment Soframycin / ointment Furacin or aloe vera based ointment on the area affected. Do not touch or scratch, give it a little time to get healed. Protect the wound from flies, insects to prevent infection.
Your husband is suggested to visit ER, he may need antiseptic dressing to be done. He should control blood glucose level so that healing is faster. If the wound is deep, he may need a course of oral or injectable antibiotics. He can take pain relieving medicines like acetaminophen or naproxen, one stat for relief.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
