Is It Safe To Have An EMG Done For A Female With Left-sided Mastectomy?

I had a sentanil lymph node biopsy4 years ago involving my left breast. I had a left sided mastectomy done. Now I need an EMG done on that left arm due to pain and numbing in that left arm. I was told no BP and no punctures in that arm after the biopsy and removal. Is it safe to have the EMG done.

Hello,

Yes, I think it's safe to have EMG of your left arm for the diagnosis purposes. Doctors advise you to refrain from arterial and venous compression and punctures. EMG does not involve such thing which can cause compression to arteries or venous puncture.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sameen Bin Naeem, General & Family Physician
