Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello last year i descovered a fibroadenoma on my left breast and my doctor said that it is strictly forbiden to take contraceptive pills. I m 18 years old and i m wondering if an iud would be safe for me and if not what other kinds of contraception can i use?
Hi I can understand your concern. At the outset, my advice would be to consult a gynecologist before taking a decision on whether to use an IUD or not.
An IUD is safe to use if you can’t take the contraceptive pills as you have a fibroadenoma of the breast. The copper IUD is 99 percent effective in preventing pregnancy
There are two types of IUD:
1. Copper containing IUD which has no hormonal side effects. 2. Hormonal containing IUD which may not be safe for you.
Hope this answers your query.
