Is It Safe To Give Xopenex For Cold, cough And Breathlessness In Children?

I have a 2 year old who has a cold, cough and is struggling to breath. His doctor has given him albuterol and flovent with a nebulizer. Which one do I use first?in addition I took him to an allergist who then told me to use just Xopenex in place for the aforementioned.

Hi,

Albuterol is also known as salbutamol that acts as a bronchodilator and used in the treatment of asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or COPD etc. On the other hand, Flovent contains fluticasone that belongs to the group of antiinflammatory medications known as steroids or corticosteroids is used in the prevention and treatment of asthma, COPD and their associated symptoms. Bronchodilator medications like Albuterol first, as it acts as reliever and open the airways as well as let the inflammatory medications like Flovent to penetrate through the airways deeper into the lungs. So, first use Albuterol with a nebulizer and then 5 minutes later use Flovent with nebulizer. Again, Xopenex contains levosalbutamol that acts as a bronchodilator like Albuterol but more stronger and effective than Albuterol. So, either Albuterol or Xopenex can be used along with Flovent.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
