Is It Safe To Fly When Diagnosed With Allergic Reaction To Bee Sting?

Hi- I was stung by a bee this afternoon (bee keeper) and I now have a localized allergic reaction on the left hand (my hand is swollen right up to the wrist, no more). I am scheduled to take a flight in 5 hours. Would being on a plane create more severe complications? Thanks!

Hi dear ,

Usually small allergic reaction like bee sting go away in shot time or sometime times they go away by taking anti allergic medicine . But they may cause problem sometimes like anaphylactic shock when they get exaggerated . I would suggest you to take anti histamine drug like benadryl or take zyrtec . Also take these drugs with you on flight . Give cold compresses on affected area . Keep your self hydrate by drinking lot of fluid . If possible consult allergy specialist or dermatologist for proper treatment .

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain if you have a localized allergic reaction to the poisonous chemical released under the skin by the bee and there is only swelling in hand and wrist and there are no systemic symptoms like dizziness, rashes, itching, nausea , vomiting etc you need not to worry and you are safe for the flight as localized reaction does not tend to cause any major problem during the flight..
For precautionary measure you can take Allegra[fexofenadine] 6O mg twice daily for 3 days to reduce the allergic effect and resolve the swelling..
In case of pain anti-inflammatory OTC painkiller like Ibuprofen can be taken..
If possible do cold compresses over the swelling..

Hope this information helps..
