Is It Safe To Drink Alcohol While Taking Thyroxine?

Hello,

I would like to know if it is safe to drink alcohol whilst taking thyroxine? I am not an alcoholic but would like to know if it will affect me say as an example going out with friends for a few drinks etc.... I had a total thyroidectomy in November for multiple nodules. I had a couple of drinks last week one evening and felt really awful the next day and wonder if this is why or is it not connected?

I have gone through your question.
I can understand your concern.

Alcohol has do not affect significantly the absorption of levothyroxine.
Anyway it’s actually best to limit or avoid alcohol consumption while taking levothyroxine because alcohol can cause changes in your thyroid's activity level, which can have an effect on your thyroid hormone levels.

My advice is to see your doctor,and to discuss with him the problem of alcohol consumption during Levothyroxine and if there is any connection between your symptoms and alcohol compsumption.
