Is It Possible For Pemphigus Vulgaris To Reappear Post Treatment?
Hello Sir and Good morning. I had Pemphigus Vulgaris in 2011 and my doctor started me off on high doses of Wysolone and Endoxan together with calcium supplements. These medications were very slowly and gradually tapered off until the present. My doctor has advised me to discontinue all the medicines now except the calcium supplements, since I am now considered to be in remission with no new skin lesions in the last 3 years. To your knowledge, is it possible for this disease to reappear after 3 years?, or can I now be considered to be totally PV free.
I can understand your concern for Pemphigus vulgaris to reappear post treatment.
Pemphigus is a blistering disorder in which the superficial skin si peeled off and form blisters. It is due to autoimmunity to the skin. There is formation of antibodies against the skin.
It requires long term treatment for the proper management of the Pemphigus. I generally give steroid therapy in various forms and along with this I also prefer immunomodulator drugs to give to Pemphigus patients.
Pemphigus if not taken care properly then can recur back. It is nothing to be worried about as same can be managed through oral and IV steroid therapy.
If you have not had any lesions for past 3 years then can be considered as remission of the problem of pemphigus.
Take care.
