Is It Ok To Have Bypass After 90% Blockage, Angioplasty And Stents ?

My son is 35. He had chest pain and had angioplasty then had stent. Dr said he has plaque and calcification throughout, 2 arteries 40% blocked, a stent placed in one that was 90% blocked, angioplasty ( had a month previouly) totally blocked and making collateral circulation. States, he is too young for a bypass and that a bypass will only last 10 years. He has no previous medical problems. His father had a 5 way bypass at the age of 40. Should we get a second opinion? The cardiologist also said he had permanent damage to the tip of his heart. Very concerned mother.

hi and welcome to HCM. I understand your concern, first thing is their is no harm in taking a second opinion for your son and second thing if their is triple artery disease with out collaterals then by pass is inevitable. Even if he had angioplasty he can go for bypass. You mentioned permanent damage to tip of his heart which is not good. I suggest you to follow your cardiologist advice and if he decides bypass is good then go for it. A coronary artery bypass can be performed with traditional surgery or with minimally invasive surgery . Your surgeon will review your diagnostic tests prior to your surgery to see if you are a candidate for minimally invasive bypass surgery. All the best
