Is It Normal To Have Headache And Ear Pain Post Tooth Extraction?

I had an infected tooth extracted 6 days ago. I am still having a lot of pain but the pain is in my jaw, the tooth located next to the extraction, my ear, and a headache on that side even when moving my eye. Should I still have all this pain? Why do all these other areas hurt so badly. It is unbearable at times. I am taking antibiotics and was on painkillers but ran out so just taking motrin. Its not helping this pain at all. Thanks for your help.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain pain in jaw,ear and head after tooth extraction can occur as it is a radiating pain and can occur in all these locations after tooth extraction..
But such a severe pain after 6 days is a matter of concern and you should consult your dentist and get evaluated as there is a chance that the blood clot must have dislodged from the extraction socket and the unhealed socket got inflamed leading to a condition known as DRY SOCKET which can cause such a severe pain.
Other reason can be any left out root piece in the extraction socket that might be causing flare up of infection and causing pain..

You should consult your treating physician and get evaluated and a clinical examination and x ray can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..
In case of dry socket irrigation of the socket with hydrogen peroxide, betadine and saline followed by placement of Zinc oxide Eugenol dressing which has to be changed every alternate day can be done alone with antibiotics and painkillers..

In case of any left out root piece removal of the same followed by antibiotics and painkiller will help..
For now you can take a higher painkiller like TRAMADOL or Ketorol DT for relief..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
