Is It Normal To Have Frequent Headaches After Having Hurt My Head?

I slipped and fell on the left side of my head. I went to the emergency facility and they took X-rays of my head and everything looked good, so they sent me home. Ever since then I get headaches everyday. First thing in the morning and pretty much all day. The headaches are tolerable, but I m concerned because it s been 2 weeks since I fell? The bump on my head is gone, but still a little sensitive when I touch it. Is this normal when you hit your head?

Hello,

You may have suffered a mild concussion and if this is true then, your symptoms are consistent with a POSTCONCUSSIVE headache which typically last on the order of several weeks to several months.

However, they have been documented as lasting as long as several years after the incident.

The key is to be properly diagnosed, AVOID taking excessive amounts of analgesics which are OTC such as Tylenol, Excedrin, Motrin, etc. and not let the continuous headaches get beyond 1 month without being brought under some level of control.

I recommend seeking out a headache specialist since it would also behoove you to be examined neurologically for possible other SYMPTOMS of CONCUSSION which may or may not be apparent to you and a neurologist/headache specialist will be looking for those things automatically when you start telling the story as to how everything happened.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Dariush Saghafi, Neurologist
