Is It Normal To Have Elevated Body Temperature While Having Pneumonia?
My 8 year old son was confirmed to have pneumonia today. He has had a fever, cough sore throat and now ear infection for 8 days. I came to check on him and his whole body is wet from sweat and his temp. Is reading between 95.8-96.2. I changed the sheets, his clothes, blankets etc so everything was dry and have him covered in warm blankets but his temp hasn t come up yet. When should I be concerned and maybe have to take to ER?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Fever is expected along with pneumonia and ear infection. You need to consult your pulmonologist for clinical assessment and prescription of antibiotics to control the infection. Anti-pyretic drugs are required to bring down the fever. You can also start cold sponging to bring down the temperature. Do not forget to maintain hydration and nutrition of the child since fever can lead to dehydration. If the child is refusing to ear, you can give him nutritious soups with rice. Infections like pneumonia and ear infection are more common with poor immunity thus, high protein diet needs to be given.
