Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 25 year old male 5 4 130 pounds and am being prescribed 1mg Xanax, 2 times a day, 1 in the morning at 7am and 1 around 3pm. Xanax has never had a drowsy effect on me and I usually don t feel like I m even on anything but if I go too long without my dose I feel the shakes and have to take my dose if I take my 2nd 1mg tablet today at 3pm would it be harmful to have 2 to 3 beers later tonight around 8?
It is not recommended to use alcohol with benzodiazepines such as Xanax. Xanax can have effective concentrations in the blood for several hours, even more than 24 hours, and so I would not say it is safe to use alcohol at all with it.
Though you don't normally feel drowsy while using it, the addition of alcohol can have unpredictable effects when it interacts with the Xanax.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Aaron Branch, General & Family Physician
