Hi,

It is advisable to keep a gap of at least three days after completing a course of metronidazole and before starting alcohol. Otherwise there is a risk of a disulfiram like reaction occurring, manifested by nausea, vomiting, flushing, palpitations etc. If a heavy amount of alcohol is taken, the reaction may be severe and may require admission or even intensive care.

Best wishes.
