Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have just stopped taking tamoxifen because it was making me feel very tired and sometimes weak. I just discovered the reason when i picked up a renewal and read the side effects warning. Is there any danger to stopping? (I am 85 years old, have had one breast removed and have no desire to live many more years.)
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Tamoxifen can cause CNS side effects like headache, dizziness, depression etc., but mostly not significant enough to discontinue. It is usually well tolerated. The half-life is about 14 days. Duration of therapy of more than 2 years is most effective. Hence individualized drug therapy is needed.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. T.K. Biswas
