Is It Advisable To Stop Effient Before A MRI Scan?

I AM SCHEDULE FOR A HIP MRI ARTHROGRAM AND I RECEIVED A HEART STENT IN SEPTEMBER OF 2014. I AM NOW TAKING EFFIENT AND WILL BE ON IT FOR A YEAR. MY QUESTION : CAN I GO OFF EFFIENT FOR THE ARTHROGRAM...THEY WANT ME OFF OF EFFIENT FOR 5 DAYS, BECAUSE OF THE INJECTION OF DYE I WILL GET?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Normally, Effient should not be stopped before one year in postangioplasty cases. Any surgery or procedure requiring weaning from Effient should be postponed for at least one year from the start of Effient, if possible. However, if urgency is required, then a stoppage for a short period of 5 days may be taken.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Satnarain Bansal, General & Family Physician
