Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was prescribed Adderall for ADD two years ago. I do not take it everyday but more like when I need to focus especially on work. I also have mild asthma that mostly is a problem when walking uphill and up stairs. I can run on a treadmill no problem for 30 minutes. My question is, I seem to have less trouble walking uphill when I take the Adderall. Could it be that the Adderall is helping my asthma symptoms? and if so, should I take it everyday as directed instead of just when I need to focus?
Adderall contains a combination of amphetamine and dextroamphetamine. Amphetamine and dextroamphetamine are central nervous system stimulants. Adderall is an addicting medicine if a take it for a long time. Never share this medicine with another person, especially someone with a history of drug abuse or addiction. This is totally ineffectual in asthma. As it has psychological stimulant effect. That’s why you are feeling that it is relieving your symptoms of asthma. But it is not effective in asthma. To start treatment of asthma, first diagnosis needs to be confirmed. It is possible that you might have exercise – induced asthma which gets aggravated by climbing upstairs Advice 1. Avoid activity which causes symptoms of asthma 2. Take rest and do not involve in strenuous activity 3. Consult a respiratory specialist of your local area for proper diagnosis of asthma followed by treatment 4. Investigation – blood Hb%, Lung function test
Thanks!!
