Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had Hepatitis A when I was 11 years old. Is there any chance that I ll get it again? By the way, I lived in a Pittsburgh slum that was being torn down to build a new city stadium so most of the buildings were deserted and occupied by homeless people.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Previous infection protects from further attacks of infection, but some relapses seen in some individuals. Almost everyone recovers fully from hepatitis A with a lifelong immunity. However, a very small proportion of people infected with hepatitis A showed recurrence in the later part of life. The peculiar fact the second episode is more severe than the first attack. So it is better to take universal precautions even if you had a previous episode.
Wishing you good health.
Thanks.
