Is Heat, Stretches And Walking Okay For Peroneal Tendinitis In Right Ankle ?

I have had peroneal tendinitis in my right ankle for 6 months. treating with an orthopedist for 4 months. The first 2 months I iced, used anti-inflammatories, wore tennis shoes and a soft ankle brace, stopped yoga. dance and jogging but continued walking. During month 3 I switched to anti inflam cream. Fourth month is a boot and I started heat instead of ice and gentle stretches (on my own) and there is negligible improvement. doc today said 4 more weeks in a boot. Is the heat, stretches and walking okay or should I stop - also when do I add strength exercises. I had this 15 years ago - stopped no activity and used exercise bands - it was gone in a month. I m 62 now - female. thank you.
